Relais Castello di Petroia Description

A working farm steeped in history, Castello Di Petroia is made of several medieval buildings set around a 12th-century tower dominating the valley of Chiasco. The buildings preserve many original architectural features. In the 15th century this was the birthplace of Frederico da Montefeltro, Duke of Urbino, one of the enlighted figures of the Renaissance.

All rooms are strictly unique and feature aristocratic furniture, exposed wood-beam ceilings, polished wooden floors or antique tiles and old prints or paintings from the 18th-century. Some rooms also have a sofa-bed, a hydromassage bath, and sweeping views across the valley.

The "Torre del Mastio", the castle's ancient watch tower, has been converted into a unique apartment, distributed on various levels. On the highest floor of the tower there is a private terrace affording breathtaking views across the Umbrian countryside and the very same landscapes which inspired the great Italian renaissance artists Perugino and Piero della Francesca.

Guests take breakfast in the elegant Sala Guidubaldo. Evenings, enjoy a candle-lit gourmet dinner in the timber-ceilinged restaurant or on the terrace where you can savour the produce of the estate, such as the white Chianina cattle.

The gardens feature a sun terrace and magnificent swimming pool. Walk in the breathtaking countryside or practice your swing at the golf practice course.

Castello di Petroia is located on the road from Gubbio (13km) to Perugia and its airport (25km). Assisi is 28km.
