La Sosta di Ottone III Description

La Sosta di Ottone III is a 4 room inn in a 16th century listed building perched in the hills at the top end of the village of Chiesanuova, 200 meters above sea level, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the Levanto Valley. Local historians claim that Otto III (980-1002) was a guest of the Zattera family in this house in the year 996 on his way to Rome to be crowned Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire at the age of 16 by Pope Gregorius V. Hence the name: La Sosta means “stop over”.

In 2002 the owners Fabio Graziani and Angela Fenwick renovated this house and turned it into an understatedly elegant and welcoming country Inn.It is a perfect location for active travelers looking to discover the Cinque Terre and enjoy the atmosphere and rhythm of a medieval rural village. The village is not accessible by car: the inn is reached via a 80 meters footpath. You can walk to the Cinque Terre directly by following the marked pathway through olive groves and pine forests or sunbathe and swim at the nearby beaches of Levanto (1 hour and 35 minutes walk) and Monterosso (2 hours and 30 minutes walk).

There are 4 spacious rooms: Ottone III, Silvestro II, Teofano and Adelaide. All are decorated with an appealing blend of antique furnishings and décor with stunning marble or mosaic ensuite bathrooms. From each room, guests can admire a spectacular view overlooking the Levanto valley and the sea. Particular care has been taken to use local materials and artisans for decoration and furnishings. All rooms are non smoking and have heating, air conditioning, a safe deposit box, a fridge, a hairdryer and broadband internet connection.

The restaurant, located in the renovated cellar, opens on to a terrace which overlooks where dinner is enjoyed in good weather. The emphasis is on Ligurian cuisine, with the menu changing daily according to availability of the freshest ingredients from local and organic growers. Breakfast optional.
