Set on the white powder beach at Tulum, the laid-back Shambala Petit Hotel has a tropical vibe and features a Buddhist-inspired decor. Although there is an emphasize on yoga - the hotel has its own Yoga Studio direct on the beach where teachers from all over the world practise - guests can engage in various activities such as snorkeling and diving, cooking lessons and Spanish language lessons and hikes to the Mayan ruins and the jungle. Or simply do nothing, laze or read on the loungers under the white parasols or in the hammocks.
The 10 simple but stylish casitas with tatched roofs are set in a horseshoe between towering coconut palms directly on the beach. Each casita is individually decorated and all, but one have a private bathroom with shower. Distinct touches include sitting areas, 4-poster beds, patios and/or flat-screen TVs.
Breakfast is included in the price with a plentiful selection of fresh fruit, croissants, yoghurts, cereals and jams, washed down with mango juice, tea and lashings of coffee. Although there's no bar, soft drinks, wine and champagne are all available (at extra cost) and meals can be delivered from nearby eateries.
