Hotel Empress Zoe Description
Five Turkish style townhouses make up the Hotel Empress Zoe, a place full of character bordering on the crumbling remnants of Istanbul's oldest hamam anno 1483. Because of the configuration, secluded courtyards and panoramic terraces unexpectedly appear around almost every corner. The magnificent central garden is an oasis of burbling fountains bordered by the flower-studded domes and ivy-clad ruins of the hamam.
The hotel is located in Sultanahmet, where all of Istanbul's famous landmarks -the Ayia Sofia mosque, the Blue mosque, the Hippodrome, Basilica Cisterne and the Topkapi Palace- are all withing walking distance.
A diversity in rooms and suites, all individually decorated in combinations of wood and stone featuring Turkish textiles, original paintings, and Islamic folk art in Byzantian and Anatolian styles. All offer an ensuite bathroom with shower, airconditioning, heating, refrigerator, direct dial telephone and a safe. Suites also feature cable TV.
The top terraces offer panoramic views of the Marmara Sea, ancient walls, mosques, turrets, and minarets. The lobby contains ancient walls and barrel vaulted passages which were once part of historic Byzantine and Ottoman Istanbul.
A buffet breakfast (inlcuding Turkish specialties) is included in the rate and is served in the garden during nice weather. An informal bar is open in the evenings in the garden in summer and by the open fireplace in winter.
